How it began

Surrey Property Maintenance & Construction was founded in 2009 by Joël Grey — a tradesman who had spent years working for other firms and watching homeowners and businesses being let down by the same patterns: contractors who overpromised, underdelivered, and disappeared when things got difficult.

He started SPMC in Cobham with a simple resolve: to be the contractor that people could actually count on. Not the cheapest. Not the flashiest. The most reliable. The most honest. The one that did what it said it would do.

Fifteen years on, that intention is unchanged — and it’s the reason clients come back, refer friends, and trust us with properties that matter to them.

Where we are today

We are a mid-sized contractor focused on Surrey and London, handling residential and commercial projects that match our expertise. We manage a limited number of projects to ensure each client receives the attention they deserve. Our team consists of directly employed tradespeople and vetted specialists, all committed to our high standards of quality and professionalism.

Joël has been working in the construction and property maintenance industry for over twenty years, beginning as a tradesman before founding SPMC in 2009.

He remains hands-on across every project the company takes on — meeting clients at the first conversation, overseeing works throughout, and walking the final snagging himself before handover. For clients, that means one person who knows their project inside out, from beginning to end.

Joël is supported by a team of directly employed tradespeople and trusted specialists who share his expectation of quality — and his understanding that a client’s property is not just a construction project, but something they care about deeply.

Works managed directly by the director. Regular updates. Access to Joël throughout. No going quiet, no excuses — just steady progress toward handover.

4. Hand over properly

A full snagging walk before we call it done. Nothing outstanding. Nothing to chase. The job is finished when it meets our standard — which is also yours.
